Manitoba problem gambling report released

MANITOBA -- As reported by the Portage la Prairie News: "One Portage la Prairie VLT player offered some possible insights into a report released Friday that says women and moderate risk gamblers are on the rise in Manitoba.

"Women and men often come together to the Keeshkeemaquah Conference & Gaming Centre, Freda Malcolm, who plays VLTs at the centre, said.

"...The Addiction Foundation of Manitoba's latest Manitoba Gambling and Problem Gambling report, released Aug. 7, suggested women were just as likely to gamble as men in the province.

"The report, the foundation's fourth since 1993, also found that the amount of what it refers to as moderate risk gamblers has risen to 4.7 per cent from 2.3 per cent of the adult population.

"Malcolm said that was likely due to older people gambling as a form of entertainment..."
