Manitoba Lifts Sunday Gambling Ban23 January 2004MANITOBA – As reported by the Canadian Press: "The Manitoba government is lifting its ban on Sunday gambling at hotels, bars and lounges in what it says is an attempt to help the battered rural economy. "The establishments will no longer be forced to shut down their video lottery terminals on Sundays as of Feb. 1. "'The option of operating VLTs on Sundays will provide a much-needed economic opportunity for hotel owners in rural Manitoba,' Lotteries Minister Scott Smith said Thursday. "…It will also level the playing field in Winnipeg, Mr. Smith said. VLTs are already running seven days a week at the city's two government-run casinos and at the Assiniboia Downs horse-racing track…" |
