Mandalay Reaches Tentative Union Deal

27 May 2002

By Dave Berns

Mandalay Resort Group has reached a tentative agreement on a new five-year contract with Culinary Local 226 and Bartender's Local 165, according to a union official.

Financial terms of the deal reached Sunday match those agreed upon early Thursday by the unions and Park Place Entertainment, Harrah's Entertainment and the Tropicana, said Culinary political director Glen Arnodo.

The companies agreed to raise their hourly contribution to each union member by $3.23 over the life of the contracts, with the bulk of the money paying to preserve health-care benefits.

MGM Mirage executives are currently meeting with union officials and could soon announce a similar deal, potentially averting the first citywide gaming strike in 18 years.
