Mandalay Bay adds poolside casino16 July 2007LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer: "In the battle for swimming-pool supremacy in Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay has always claimed to be the front-runner. And while it has challengers – Caesars Palace and the Bellagio come to mind - Mandalay Bay's six large splash areas, which include a wave pool and a 200-yard lazy river, plus 2,700 tons of California sand that make up its beach, are tough to beat. "To keep that edge, the South Seas-themed resort just added one more amenity to its 11-acre swim area - a poolside casino. And the casino is just part of a new, three-story, $30 million building that gives Mandalay Bay's water park a dimension that separates it from the pack. "...The second-floor casino overlooks the swimming pool area through floor-to-ceiling windows that can be opened when temperatures allow. There's blackjack, craps, roulette, and a bar with video poker. Beach attire is permitted in the casino, and the dealers dress accordingly: shorts and sandals and bikinis with sarongs. "The top floor - reserved for the casino's high rollers - includes five villas with day beds, wet bars, 50-inch flat-screen TVs, and private decks. They rent for $750 to $2,000 a day, and even if you're willing to lay out that kind of cash, there's likely to be competition for those suites..." |
