Manchester official concerned with criticism26 February 2007MANCHESTER, England – As reported by the BBC News: "The surprise decision to award the super-casino licence to Manchester should be examined by Parliament, a growing number of MPs and peers say. "Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell announced the decision in January after an independent advisory panel had studied other cities' bids. "However, Blackpool MPs are among 81 MPs who have signed a Parliamentary motion asking for it to be reconsidered. "Manchester Council leader Richard Leese said he was concerned at the criticism. "…Leader of Manchester City Council Sir Richard Leese said he was 'concerned and surprised' at MPs and peers criticism of the panel's decision as both houses agreed to the establishment of the advisory panel. "…He also said that while there was 'a lot of sympathy for Blackpool and [people] want to see successful regeneration there', Manchester also needed regeneration." |
