Man starts unapproved online casino in Saskatchewan

9 November 2012

SASKATCHEWAN, Canada -- Bernie Shepherd has decided its time for Saskatchewan to have an online casino and he isn't waiting for his provincial government to support the idea, CBC News reported.

Shepherd, a former chief of the White Bear First Nation and gambling expansion advocate, opened Northern Bear online casino this week, the report explained.

Shepherd, who has no government approval for the site but is "exercising his treaty rights", is hosting his site's servers off shore in the Virgin Islands, CBC News reported.

The province, which has decided against operating online gaming, has referred the matter to the RCMP, the report made note.
