Man Hits Michigan Million Dollar Jackpot Twice

10 May 2004

LANSING, Michigan – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Russell Tanner of Dexter always dreamt of becoming a millionaire. But, he never thought Lottery luck would strike twice. Two years ago, on June 5, 2002, Tanner's wish was granted when he scratched off a Michigan Lottery "Casino Riches" instant ticket to win a $1,000,000 top prize.

Last week, just a few days prior to his 78th birthday, Tanner bought a "$1,000,000 Dream" instant Lottery ticket hoping to once again find Lottery luck. Upon scratching it off, Tanner was shocked to learn he had again won a $1,000,000 top prize.

"It's a pleasure to help make $1,000,000 dreams come true," said Lottery Commissioner Gary Peters. "I am thrilled to be able to make that dream come true twice for Russell!"

The lucky man purchased this $1,000,000 winning ticket at Pilot Travel Center #296, 195 Baker Road, in Dexter.

"The first time that I won a $1,000,000 top prize, I just kept saying 'Omigosh!'" exclaimed Tanner. "When I scratched off this ticket and saw I had won another $1,000,000 top prize, I was shocked! I simply couldn't believe that I could be so blessed. It just feels great to win!"

According to Tanner, the best thing about winning is having the opportunity to use the winnings to help out his family and friends.

"It's a wonderful feeling to be able to help others," said Tanner. "And now, I can do even more thanks to the Michigan Lottery."

"I always say that if you don't play, it doesn't pay," added Tanner. "Now, I'm going for three!"

"$1,000,000 Dream" is just one of many Michigan Lottery instant tickets available at more than 9,000 Lottery retailers statewide.

Since it was created in 1972, the Michigan Lottery has transferred more than $11 billion to the state School Aid Fund, which supports K-12 public education in Michigan.
