Man Admits Role in Illegal Gambling Operation

FORT MYERS, Florida – As reported by the Naples Daily: "A 27-year-old Fort Myers man who now works as a car salesman pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to operating an illegal sports gambling operation.

"Nicholas J. Delnegro, of 8056 Queen Palm Lane, Apt. 637, pleaded guilty to one count of violating the federal Wire Wager Act. He told U.S. Magistrate Judge Douglas N. Frazier that he broke the law by advising clients to place bets on sports teams with an offshore casino, and used Western Union to send that money to casinos and for payments to him.

"…Delnegro, who, along with a partner, ran the Fort Myers-based Nationwide Sports, were arrested during a spring investigation into illegal sports betting which netted 14 Southwest Florida men who worked for Nationwide Sports, National Sports Consultants Inc. and Player's Edge Inc.

"Delnegro's plea marks him as the 13th to cut a deal in connection with this investigation…"
