Majority in Philadelphia favor slots30 April 2009PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania -- As reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer: "In a new poll of Philadelphians, slightly more than half favored bringing slots gambling to the city, and most liked the idea of a casino on the waterfront but not downtown. "The Pew Charitable Trusts' Philadelphia Research Initiative reported yesterday that 53 percent of the respondents favored slot-machine gambling, while 41 percent opposed it. "Of the 800 adults surveyed, 60 percent supported building a slots parlor on the Delaware River and 35 percent disapproved. The SugarHouse Casino is planned for the waterfront on Delaware Avenue in Northern Liberties and Fishtown. "Putting a slots parlor at Market East, however, was not popular with most residents, according to the poll. Fifty-seven percent said they were against it; 39 percent were in favor..." |
