Maine Gaming Board Nominees Approved

AUGUSTA, Maine — As reported by the Associated Press: "Gov. John Baldacci´s five nominees to Maine's new Gambling Control Board and his choice for a seat on the state panel that oversees campaign activities all won strong votes of support Tuesday from a legislative committee.

"The Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee´s endorsements set the stage for their likely Senate confirmation Aug. 25.

"…The committee also approved Baldacci´s five nominees to Maine´s Gambling Control Board, which was created by the Legislature earlier this year to oversee slot machines voters have authorized conditionally for installation at Maine harness racing tracks.

"The nominees include former seven-term state Sen. Peter Danton of Saco, Jean Deighan of Bangor, broadcaster George McHale of Orrington, former state police detective W. Lawrence Hall of Dedham and businessman Michael Peters of Dixfield…"
