Maine gambling board seeks clarification9 August 2007AUGUSTA, Maine -- As reported by the Bangor Daily News: "An attempt to renegotiate its contract by the company hired by Maine to monitor Hollywood Slots at Bangor has caused the state's Gambling Control Board to question its own authority. "Scientific Games Inc., the operator of the computer system that provides oversight of the Hollywood Slots gambling facility for the state, sought to re-open its contract but withdrew the request after the board made it clear it would reject the proposal if it were formally made at Wednesday's meeting. "'In the simple reading of this, I personally believe that this board does not have the authority to renegotiate this contract,' board Chairman George McHale said after emerging from an executive session to get legal advice on the request. "...Members of the board said they would like the laws governing gambling in the state to be reviewed by the Legislature because they oversee only part of the gambling in the state..." |
