Magna may still build in Romulus

MICHIGAN -- As reported by the Michigan Journal Newspapers: "Romulus officials may be able to salvage the seemingly doomed Magna project after all.

"Mayor Alan Lambert said Magna officials — who for three years had been working with the city on a plan for a horseracing track only to pull out of the deal two weeks ago — have expressed a desire to build another project on the land.

"...Magna Entertainment, which is based in Canada, backed out of building a $100 million racing facility when they informed the State Office of Racing Commissioner that they would no longer seek a racing permit for a Romulus location. The announcement came as a surprise to city officials, even though Magna had announced larger than expected quarterly losses days before it abandoned the project.

"Now, Lambert thinks the fact Magna officials want to talk means some sort of development is possible..."
