Macau's Casino Untouched by Bird Flu16 February 2004MACAU – As reported by Ponto Final: "Macau's vitally important casino sector has so far remained immune to avian influenza epidemic, according to insider source. "The business of Macau's casinos is 'not being affected' by the outbreak of bird flu on the Chinese mainland and elsewhere in Asia, an insider of the vitally important gaming industry said on Monday. "Speaking on condition not to be named, the source said Macau's 12 casinos had logged an average gross revenue of around 86 million patacas (US$10.75 million)a day during the first two weeks of the month, adding that based on the daily average recorded during that period the casinos were expected to generate a gross revenue of about 2.5 billion patacas (US$312 million) this month, or 400 million patacas (US$49.48 million) more than in the same month last year. "The source also said that the casino sector's gross revenue was forecast to grew some 37 per cent in the first two months on the same period last year…" |
