Macau Tourist Numbers Up Slightly

MACAU -- As reported by the Ponto Final: "Macau, which has just 444,000 residents, recorded 9.5 million visitor arrivals in the first 10 months, an increase of 0.5 per cent on the same period last year, the Macau Statistics and Census Bureau said on Thursday.

"According to the bureau, 46.3 per cent of all arrivals were mainland Chinese, 40.9 per cent Hongkongers, and 8.8 per cent Taiwanese. Some 46.8 per cent of all visitors were members of tour groups.

"…Meanwhile, according to preliminary official statistics, Macau's 11 casinos generated a gross revenue of around 22 billion patacas (US$2.75 billion) in the first 10 months, an increase of around 25 per cent on the same period last year…"
