Macau gambling revenue up 1.5% in July

2 August 2012

CHICAGO -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Gambling revenue in Macau rose 1.5% in July to $3.08 billion, according to data released Wednesday by the Chinese territory's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. That is a far slower pace than has been the case over the last few years but results were hurt by Typhoon Vicente which caused the cancellation of ferry service for several days - and many analyst were expecting the take to be down. "Growth comparisons are very tough in August, but moderate in September," noted Joe Greff of J.P. Morgan. "Based on the current trends (adjusting for the typhoon impact) and adjusting for seasonality and assuming normal table hold, we believe August can deliver low double digit year-over-year growth."
