Macau casino employment numbers drop28 March 2008MACAO, China -- As reported by the Macau Daily Times: "The number of workers employed in Macau's gaming industry has fallen for the first time since a bi-annual survey was introduced in 2004, figures revealed yesterday. "In December last year there were 44,743 employees working in all forms of gaming, a 0.6 percent drop compared with the previous survey in the second quarter of the same year, according to the Statistics and Census Service. "The biggest drop was seen in numbers of workers not directly related to betting. "Sand sales workers, which includes card slot machine attendants, hosts, security and surveillance staff fell by more than 25 percent to 5,832 compared with June last year. "However the largest category of employment – clerks – a term used to categorise dealers, pit bosses and cage cashiers still experienced a rise.
