Lynwood Anti-Casino Resolution Passed

LYNWOOD, Illinois – As reported by the Southland Star: "Harvey aldermen Monday unanimously passed a resolution opposing the proposed Lynwood casino.

"The resolution follows several months of urging by the Lansing-based anti-gambling lobbying group Citizens for Our Community.

"It is unclear if the resolution, or others like it approved in nearby communities, will have any effect on the casino plans.

"U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Chicago, is backing the plan on the federal level and has said through a spokesperson that the local resolutions opposing the casino will have little bearing on its approval.

"The Ho-Chunk Nation, a Wisconsin-based Native American tribe, is seeking to build a casino and family entertainment complex on 280 acres the tribe owns near Glenwood-Dyer Road and Stony Island Avenue in Lynwood.

"…On Monday, Harvey joined a number of Illinois and Indiana border communities opposing the plan, which has yet to come to a vote…"
