Lynch Proposes New Gaming Control Board10 February 2004PROVIDENCE – As reported by the Journal-Register: ``With gambling becoming an ever-increasing enterprise in Rhode Island, and with the prospect of a Foxwoods-style resort casino on the horizon, Attorney General Patrick Lynch wants to tighten up the way the state regulates the gaming industry. ``Lynch unveiled legislation on Monday that would create a five-member state Gaming Control Commission to license, regulate and enforce the laws and rules concerning casino gambling. ``At the same time, he would establish a Division of Gaming Enforcement within the attorney general's office that would, in cooperation with the state police, investigate applications for gambling establishments, prosecute violations before the commission, audit casino operations, and investigate and continually review casino questions. ``The attorney general called the commission idea 'beyond timely. We need to act before there are further changes in the landscape.'…" |
