Louisiana Player Wins $40.6 Million Jackpot14 February 2005UNITED STATES –- (PRESS RELEASE) -- One lucky player in Louisiana matched all 6 numbers Saturday and walked away with the $40.6 million jackpot. The winner will now have to decide to either take the 29-year, 30-installment annuity, or the one time cash "lump sum" amount of $23,041,529. There were a total of 378,624 additional winners in America's Game Saturday evening. Those winners won prizes totaling $3,410,194. The numbers drawn were 18, 21, 28, 49, 50 and the Powerball was 16. The Power Play multiplier was 5. Five players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. These tickets were sold in Washington D.C., Missouri (2), and Pennsylvania (2). Twenty-six players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Five additional players not only matched 4+1, but also purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $25,000! A total of 50,698 winning Powerball plays were multiplied by 5. Winners were able to do so by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot, from 2 to 5 times. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier. Players purchased more than $16.4 million in tickets between Wednesday and Saturday night. The jackpot for Wednesday, February 16, will be $10 million. The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY04. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects. Powerball is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. |
