Louisiana Parish Considers Video Poker Ballot25 February 2004IBERIA PARISH, Louisiana – As reported by the (Lafayette, Louisiana) Advertiser: "Carl Fenske owns five video poker casinos in Acadiana, and some are near the borders of Iberia Parish, where the electronic gaming devices are banned. Now, Iberia Parish is considering putting the video poker question on the fall ballot, but that doesn't faze Fenske much. "…Tonight, the Iberia Parish council will debate whether to ask voters if they want to bring video poker back to their parish. It was banned in 1999, but advocates say that the parish is losing revenue because of it. "…Others involved in the video poker debate are not as neutral as Fenske, and still others are hesitant to share their opinions. "…The Rev. Ed Downs of First Baptist Church in New Iberia said that he thinks many in the community suffer from 'complacency' about the video poker issue…" |
