Louisiana official pushes for casino22 December 2008ST. TAMMANY PARISH, Louisiana -- As reported by The Times-Picayune: "St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis said Friday that he is pursuing a plan to establish an 'entertainment district' anchored by a gambling boat on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain south of Slidell. "St. Tammany Parish residents voted overwhelmingly more than a decade ago to ban casino boats in the parish, so Davis' plan will require a change in state law and the approval of potentially skeptical parish voters. "'I'm not talking about just a boat out there with slot machines,' Davis said. 'We're talking about an entertainment center with a hotel, restaurants, shops and a place for international and national stars to perform.' "Although many details have to be worked out, Davis said he is putting the plan on the fast track. Within the next 60 days, he said, a detailed proposal will be ready for the Parish Council to consider. "...The site for the entertainment district would be near Lakeshore Estates on land owned by businessman and developer Robert Torres, Davis said..." |
