Louisiana casinos see revenue gains in October18 November 2008NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana -- As reported by Forbes: "Although the nation's economy took a historic nosedive last month, Louisiana's state-licensed casinos still recorded a 5.7 percent gain in winnings from gamblers as compared with the previous October. "The 13 riverboats won $144.2 million, up from $137.2 million a year ago. The four slot machine casinos at race tracks pulled in another $33.2 million, compared with $29 million in October 2007, state police reported Tuesday. "Harrah's New Orleans Casino saw a slight drop from $32.5 million to $30.3 million. "Overall, the Louisiana trends bucked those nationwide where casinos have reported sharp drops in revenue in the face of increased competition and, earlier this year, high gasoline prices..." |
