Louisiana Casinos Off Tax List

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- As reported by the Louisiana Times-Picayune: "Riverboats and the New Orleans land-based casino are no longer on Gov. Kathleen Blanco's list of possible so-called "sin tax" increases for the upcoming legislative session.

"But the administration is still looking at higher taxes on video poker and slot machines at race tracks, Blanco spokeswoman Denise Bottcher said Wednesday.

"Seeking ways to raise money for teacher pay raises, Blanco's financial officers have been considering an increase on one or more sin taxes, including gambling, alcohol and tobacco. No decisions have been made, Bottcher said…"
