Louisiana casino tax bill approved

LOUISIANA -- As reported by the Advocate: "House-passed legislation that could allow East Baton Rouge Parish to collect more taxes from riverboat gambling gained Senate committee approval Tuesday.

"House Bill 613, sponsored by Rep. Yvonne Dorsey, D-Baton Rouge, would allow parish officials to negotiate with riverboat casinos on taxes paid from their operations.

"Today, the parish collects a $2.50-per-passenger boarding fee from the boats.

"HB613 would allow parish officials to change the tax basis to an up to 4.5 percent share of net monthly gambling proceeds..."
