Louisiana casino revenue down in December

LOUISIANA -- As reported by The Times-Picayune: "Revenue was down at nearly every local casino last month, according to data released by the Louisiana State Police. The year-over-year decline suggests that the gaming industry has not been exempt from the effects of nation's recession.

"Casinos won more than $222 million from gamblers in December, down more than 2 percent from the more than $228 million won in the same month a year earlier, according to the report issued Tuesday at a Louisiana Gaming Control Board meeting in Baton Rouge.

"Revenue at Harrah's New Orleans, the state's only land-based casino, fell five percent over the year to $34.9 million.

"Still, the fall is not as steep as that at some other Harrah's properties around the country. The downtown hotel and casino's parent company, Harrah's Entertainment, lost $415.1 million in the first nine months of the year..."
