"If approved, the resolution would be a 'huge stumbling block' for the casino, the state's top gambling regulator said. "Councilman Louis Congemi said Tuesday he plans to introduce the resolution, co-sponsored by Councilman Elton Lagasse, stating the council's opposition to the relocation of Isle of Capri's riverboat from Lake Charles to a Mississippi River site just upriver from the Huey P. Long Bridge. "Congemi and council members John Young, Chris Roberts and Jennifer Sneed said Tuesday they would vote for the resolution. "…But Lagasse said he plans to ask that a vote be postponed. He said casino lobbyist and former Jefferson Parish District Attorney John Mamoulides told him Tuesday that the casino is withdrawing a relocation application pending before the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. The board must clear the casino's application before the Parish Council can decide whether to call a parishwide referendum needed for the casino move. "…Casino spokeswoman Lori Hutzler said the company has not withdrawn the application and is moving ahead with plans to submit required documentation to the board by March…" |
