Louisiana Casino Deal Left on Table

LOUISIANA – As reported by the Baton Rogue Advocate: "Outgoing Gov. Mike Foster said late Tuesday that he won't sign a deal that would allow a central Louisiana Indian tribe to open a casino near Logansport.

"Incoming Gov. Kathleen Blanco, who takes office Monday, said last month that she is opposed to signing a compact with the Jena Band of Choctaws for a casino.

"The tribe wants to open a casino in Logansport, near the Texas border, miles from its ancestral lands near Alexandria.

"…Foster said he did not have time to iron out a deal with the tribe that would have covered losses in state revenue generated by competing riverboats…"
