Louisiana casino boat license awarded20 November 2006FRANKLIN, Louisiana – As reported by the Advocate: "After years of St. Mary Parish working to procure Louisiana's 15th and last waterway gambling license, Amelia will soon be home of a riverboat casino. "Along with offering southern Louisiana residents a place to gamble, the boat is expected to improve the economic fortunes of the coastal parish. "St. Mary Parish President Paul Naquin Jr. said the contracts between the parish and Amelia Belle riverboat will be signed Tuesday, and the boat should be at the site on Lake Palourde Road by mid-January 2007. "…In the meantime, the boat is still in Mobile, Ala., for repair of damage from Hurricane Katrina. "…Naquin said the casino should produce about 400 new jobs directly, with another 500 jobs coming as a result of support businesses and operations in the area. "Furthermore, the parish will receive $1.5 million the day the casino opens its doors, with this amount being increased if the casino make more than $60 million annually.." |
