Lotto Sales Surge Past £5bn15 May 2006UK -- As reported by the Evening Standard (UK): "Lottery operator Camelot, said it had been helped by record demand for online, interactive TV and mobile phone-based games. "Overall sales were £5.01bn in the 12 months to the end of March, an increase of just over five per cent and better than expected. However, the fastest growth came from interactive, online and mobile phone ticket sales, which were up 145%... "...Olympic scratch cards had raised £2.3m more for the 2012 Games than had been expected. Last year its themed scratch card games contributed £16.3m to the Olympic Lottery Distribution Fund... The Lottery is due to contribute a total of £1.5bn to the funding of the Olympics, of which £750m will come from dedicated lottery games... "The first Olympic themed draw-based game, called Dream Number, will be launched this summer...It will have seven tiers of prizes from £2m to £500,000. "There will also be a range of new scratchcards and Instant Win games this year, one to tie in with the World Cup and others to link in with film releases as well as further Olympic-themed games. "Camelot's chief executive Dianne Thompson said: '...Innovation is the key to long-term growth in lotteries and I am proud that Camelot is regarded as the most innovative lottery operator in the world..." |
