Lottery Winner Faces Assault Charge

WINFIELD, West Virginia – As reported by the Charleston Gazette: "Record-holding Powerball winner Jack Whittaker faces an assault charge in Putnam County after a bar fight over the weekend.

"Putnam Magistrate Kim Blair arraigned Whittaker on Tuesday morning after he was arrested for allegedly trying to hit and threatening to kill Todd Parsons, manager of Billy Sundays Bar and Grill in St. Albans.

"The jackpot winner reportedly has been banned from the bar for the past year. But according to a criminal complaint, Whittaker stopped by sometime Sunday and got into a verbal argument with Parsons.

"…On Christmas Day 2002, Whittaker won $315 million in the Powerball lottery, the largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history. He opted for a lump-sum payment that, after taxes, totaled $113 million…"
