Lottery to Replace Jueteng in Phillipines

MANILA, Philippines – As reported by the Manila Sun Star: "Small town lottery (STL), a legalized version of the illegal numbers games jueteng, masiao and loteng, is set to operate in various parts of the country.

"Staunch anti-illegal gambling crusader Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz also revealed that a huge chunk of profits from STL will allegedly go to gambling lords who will get franchises to operate the STL.

"…Cruz said STL operators expect an estimated P800,000 in daily collections, meaning those getting the 10 percent share will receive an average of P80,000 per day or P2.4 million on a monthly basis…"
