Lottery to Drop TV Promotions9 December 2003MADISON, Wisconsin -- Wisconsin Lottery officials said Monday they will no longer broadcast nightly drawings live on television and will stop producing a weekly game show that had aired for more than a decade. Michael J. Edmonds, acting lottery director, said the broadcasts will stop as of Jan. 1. The lottery's annual $350,000 contract to air the drawings and the game show, called Super Money Game, ends Dec. 31. The costs of both, including $2 million a year for prizes on the game show, are covered by lottery ticket sales, lottery spokesman Andrew Bohage said. Tax dollars are not used to support the lottery. All lottery profits go toward property tax relief. "By shifting some resources dedicated to the game show, we think we can increase sales of other products that will help maximize property tax relief," he said. |
