Lottery steps up security

SASKATCHEWAN -- As reported by the CBC News: "The Western Canada Lottery Corporation is stepping up its efforts to prevent lottery fraud, requiring all stores to have new terminals by this fall that allow customers to check their tickets.

"'We're introducing customer display units,' said John Matheson, a spokesman for the lottery corporation. 'In the bottom portion of the customer display unit, we'll display to the consumer whether they have won a prize or not won a prize, and what that prize amount might be.'

"Some self-service terminals for customers are already in place, but they will be put in all stores selling lottery tickets by this fall.

"...As of Aug. 1, customers will also be required to sign their tickets before handing them over to retailers to check them. Vendors must also return validation slips to customers..."
