Lottery executive takes medical leave

AUSTIN, Texas -- As reported by the Star-Telegram: "Anthony Sadberry, who for eight years served on the board that oversees the Texas Lottery and was brought back in 2006 to run the day-to-day operations after a scandal had rocked the agency, has taken a medical leave of absence and transferred most of his duties to a deputy, lottery officials confirmed Wednesday.

"'He is ill and he is on leave,' said lottery commissioner C. Thomas Clowe. 'I can't discuss it beyond that. But we wish him well and hope to see him recover real soon.'

"Sadberry, 58, took over as action executive of the lottery in January 2006 -- six months after the previous director resigned under fire, after it was reported that he had signed off advertising an inflated jackpot for the Lotto Texas game on at least two occasions..."
