Lottery Asks Police to Review Handling of Ticket Scandal

15 November 2004

Las Vegas Sun

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Hoosier Lottery said Friday it has asked state police to review its handling of an alleged scheme to cash in on a winning $1 million ticket.

Lottery Director John M. Ross said in a news release that he asked for the review to reassure the public of the lottery's integrity.

Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi this week filed criminal charges against a former lottery security officer and two other men accused in the scam. Brizzi said lottery officials had made no effort to report the scheme to authorities, who learned about it from an informant.

Ross has said the lottery was conducting its own investigation and did not believe the evidence was strong enough to turn over to an outside agency.
