Long Beach considers casino zoning

LONG BEACH, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "The Long Beach Planning Commission is considering rules for the city to use should it decide to zone property for casinos.

"The commission's work is limited to setting up legal definitions and base guidelines for casino, resort and educational districts. It is not at this point looking to rezone any property for gambling.

"A casino developer must have at least five acres, make a formal application to the city and present a master plan before the city would consider rezoning any property, under the proposed guidelines. The Mississippi Gaming Commission has the final say on whether a site is legal for gambling, but as a policy will not consider any application until it has the proper city zoning.

"At present, Long Beach has no laws that even allow for casinos…"
