London Bookie Says Gore Will Beat Bush, By a Hair6 July 1999NEW YORK -- Ladbrokes, the world famous London-based oddsmakers, announced in a July 1 statement that odds call for Vice President Albert Gore to be elected the 43rd President of the United States on November 7th, 2000. "We see the final outcome as being extremely close," said Ladbrokes' Deputy Chief Oddsmaker Ed Nicholson. For those who want to back Vice President Gore, the odds are 5 to 4. For Texas Governor George W. Bush, Ladbrokes' current odds are 6 to 4. "Our feeling is that while the Vice President's campaign is off to a slow start, his experience will dominate with time and he will win by a tad and move into The White House on January 20th, 2001," Nicholson said. For an expected run for the Senate in New York State by First Lady Hillary Clinton and New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Ladbrokes foresees no early pattern to name a winner. "It's just too close at this stage and we're quoting odds best described as 'pick em' of 10 to 11 on either Mrs. Clinton or Mayor Giuliani," according to Nicholson. |
