Locals Want Bigger Cut from Evangeline Downs' Revenue

LOUISIANA – As reported by the Opelousas Daily World: "Opelousas wants a much bigger share of the anticipated revenue from the new Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino.

"Currently the lion's share of the revenue, 58 percent of 4 percent of the racino's profits, is going to the Parish Council.

"'They were the governing authority at that time. Now we are the governing authority,' said Mayor Anna Simmons, pointing out that the racino has been annexed into the city.

"Newly-elected Parish President Don Menard bristle at this suggestion when contacted after the meeting.

"…He promised to do whatever it takes to prevent the city from taking over the racino money…"
