Locals Banned from Filipino Casino18 November 2003BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – As reported by the Manila Times: "No Baguio residents will be allowed into the casino at Camp John Hay, an official of the Camp John Hay Development Corp (CJHDevCo) has assured. "Lawyer Ma. Georgina Alvarez, company senior vice president for legal and corporate services, said they would abide by the city council resolution banning Baguio residents from entering the premises of the casino. "It is clear from the provisions of Resolution 248, which was adopted on November 5 by the city council, that the gaming and entertainment complex would allow only tourists and members into the facility, Alvarez said. "…The resolution amended one of the conditions set for the development of the former American rest and recreation facility in 1994. "The condition not to allow Baguio residents into the casino complex puts into a different light the protests being spearheaded by the Catholic Church and other religious groups as well and non-government organizations in the city…" |
