Local casino employees clean up West Siloam Springs

27 September 2013

WEST SILOAM SPRINGS, Okla. -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Thanks to the volunteer efforts of multiple employees from Cherokee Casino & Hotel West Siloam Springs, motorists on the two-mile section of Highway 412 just west of the Oklahoma line were welcomed to Siloam Springs with a debris-free drive and a lasting impression of the area.

Employees recently cleared away litter and debris left along Highway 412 as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program.

“Being involved in picking up trash for Adopt-A-Highway is a great gesture to the community,” said Mellissa Billy, player’s club manager at Cherokee Casino & Hotel West Siloam Springs. “When my kids see me going to work in jeans and a T-shirt and they ask why I’m not in my usual work attire, it gives me the opportunity to explain to them about community service and why we should do things to help our community.”

The volunteers picked up more than 15 30-gallon trash bags filled with waste.

“We do our best to keep our sponsored section of roadway as clean as possible. It’s a great way to give back to the community,” said Bernadette Keck, employee services generalist at Cherokee Casino & Hotel West Siloam Springs. “This allows us to show CNE and Cherokee Nation’s commitment to making a positive impact on the environment in the communities we partner with. Our team really enjoys embodying that commitment.”

Cherokee Nation Entertainment employees pick up trash along highways near Cherokee Casino locations throughout northeastern Oklahoma every year. Cherokee Casino employees have additional clean-up days scheduled throughout the year.
