Live Races May Return to Oklahoma Track

OKLAHOMA – As reported by the Birmingham News: "Live horse racing would return to the Birmingham Race Course if it wins the right to provide video gambling, track magnate Milton McGregor plans to announce today.

"Live horse racing ended at the course in 1995, after a dropoff in betting and race prizes drove away most of the top breeders and horses, McGregor said.

"…Video gambling would provide the $3 million to $3.5 million McGregor would need to attract quality racing with larger purses of at least $80,000 per race, he said. The track now offers live greyhound races and simulcasts of horse and greyhound races from other tracks.

"The addition of video gambling in Birmingham would require legislative and voter approval. McGregor expects a bill to be introduced in the ongoing legislative session…"
