Lincoln Park Sale in Trouble

PROVIDENCE. Rhode Island – As reported by the Providence Journal: "Lincoln Park sale-and-expansion legislation was on the skids yesterday amid allegations by the top-ranked Republican in the House that House Speaker William J. Murphy was trying to "sabotage" the sale to BLB Investors "for the benefit" of another gambling company.

"In a day of charges and countercharges and unanswered questions, a key House committee posted notice of a rare, post-session hearing on the stalled legislation that links the addition of 1,750 video slots at the track to tax relief.

"…But what, if anything, will happen after the hearing was in question yesterday after Murphy said he felt no obligation to bring the full House back to vote on the legislation by next Friday -- the last possible date by which the principals in BLB say they need action.

"…He said the House, which ended its 2005 session a week ago, would probably come back for 'at least one day' before January to handle veto overrides and other business…"
