Lincoln Park Plans Hesitates with New Plans17 September 2004LINCOLN, Nebraska -- As reported by the Providence Journal: "After months of inactivity, Lincoln Park has finally made good on its pledge to demolish its decrepit old clubhouse building. "But the clubhouse's disappearance doesn't mean the gambling facility will build the $30-million addition whose plans it first unveiled two years ago, and which it predicted, at the time, would be complete and operational by now. "...'Currently, there are no plans for any additional construction at Lincoln Park,' John Goodman, spokesman for the gambling facility, said yesterday. "...Meanwhile, there still won't be anyplace to put the 1,300 additional video lottery terminals the state Lottery Commission approved in January of last year. The terminals are supposed to go in the new building, but officials from Lincoln Park and its British parent company, Wembley plc, said they were hesitant to invest money in construction when Lincoln Park didn't have a long-term agreement with the state locking in the amount of its revenues it will get to keep in years to come. "In that respect, nothing has changed, and no long-term agreement is on the horizon, Goodman said yesterday..." |
