Leupp Passed Over for Casino

ARIZONA – As reported by the Arizona Daily Star: "Flagstaff gamblers are still going to have drive about an hour to play the slots if the Navajo Nation follows its consultant's advice on where to build casinos.

"Twin Arrows near Leupp, just 15 minutes east of Flagstaff on Interstate 40, was passed over as a likely location for a successful casino in favor of Cameron, an hour's drive to the north.

"Other recommended sites were in Page, Chinle and Gallup, N.M., and along I-40 in Arizona about 30 miles west of the New Mexico border.

"Cameron, located at the junction of Highways 89 and 64, was deemed the best site close to Flagstaff because it was poised to catch tourists heading to Lake Powell or the Grand Canyon's South Rim.

"…Gaming consultant GVA Marquette Advisors said competition from Camp Verde's casino might disadvantage any new casino that opened nearer Flagstaff…"
