Legendary night planned at Fantasy Springs with Grammy winner John Legend

13 August 2012

INDIO, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Recording artist, concert performer and philanthropist John Legend has won nine Grammy awards and was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people. He will once again bring his talents to the stage at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Friday, November 16.

Legend launched his career as a session player and vocalist, contributing to best-selling recordings by Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z and Kanye West before recording his own unbroken chain of Top 10 albums -- Get Lifted (2004), Once Again (2006) and Evolver (2008) -- each of them reaching #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop charts.

His debut album, Get Lifted, earned eight Grammy nominations and won Best New Artist, Best R&B album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for Ordinary People while selling more than 3 million copies worldwide. His follow-up album, Once Again, earned an RIAA platinum certification and a Grammy award for "Heaven," which also won Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. In 2008, he released Evolver, his third Top 10 album, and embarked on an extensive world tour with his 10-piece band.

In 2010, Legend and the band The Roots released Wake Up!, a compilation of music from the 60s and 70s, all with an underlying theme of awareness, engagement and social consciousness, which won two Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance.

Throughout his career, he has worked to make a difference in the lives of others. In 2007, he launched the Show Me Campaign (, an initiative that uses education to break the cycle of poverty.

Legend was awarded the 2010 BET Humanitarian of the Year award, the 2009 CARE Humanitarian Award for Global Change, the 2009 Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award from Africare, and the 2012 Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year Award.

Currently Legend is involved in Duets, a reality TV singing competition on ABC. The show stars John Legend along with Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke and Jennifer Nettles as mentors who search for singers to duet with them as they perform in front of a live studio audience.

In his Time 100 tribute to John, Quincy Jones explained, “He is a genius…and we've seen only the tip of the iceberg. For all that he has already achieved in his career, it is going to be fun watching where he goes from here."

Tickets for the 9PM John Legend performance go on sale Friday, August 17.
