Legal action threatened over UK casino ads4 April 2007BLACKPOOL, England – As reported by Blackpool Today: "Legal action was today threatened amid a growing row over an advert aimed at busting Blackpool's supercasino bid. "An angry group of Liberal Democrats are considering contacting lawyers after they were named in a national newspaper ad which called on MPs and Lords to vote against their town. "It was published in two national newspapers ahead of last Wednesday's crucial casino location debate in Parliament. "Reportedly signed by a number of local politicians, together with some known anti-casino campaigners, it called for Parliament to back Manchester's controversial selection. Steven Bate, Jon Bamborough and Doreen Holt say they did not give permission for their names to appear in the ad, which went against the views of the main three political parties in Blackpool. "…[ Robert Wynne, leader of the Liberal Democrats in the resort,]said the three Lib Dems were now taking advice with a view to looking at possible legal action against the Noble Organisation – owners of Blackpool's Coral Island complex – which 'contributed' to the advert's cost…" |
