Lee Roy Parnell plays Saturday in Claremore1 October 2013CLAREMORE, Okla. -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Lee Roy Parnell is a musical jack of all trades. He’s a singer-songwriter and guitarist who plays music that showcases influences of Texas swing, delta blues and southern boogie. On Saturday, Parnell will perform a free concert at the Dog Iron Saloon inside Cherokee Casino - Will Rogers Downs. Parnell is slated to take the stage at 9 p.m., with local musician Wilbur Lee Tucker following at 11 p.m. The Abilene, Texas, native broke onto the scene with 1992’s “Love Without Mercy.” The album featured the singles “What Kind of Fool Do You Think I Am” and “Tender Moment,” which both peaked at No. 2. To date, Parnell has released eight albums and charted 20 singles, including seven in the Top 10. Among those are “I’m Holding My Own,” “A Little Bit of You,” Heart’s Desire” and “On the Road.” Parnell has long been a Gibson guitarist, playing a trademark 1956 Les Paul Goldtop since he was 15. In 2006, he partnered with the legendary guitar manufacturer to tour the country in the Gibson tour bus and provide clinics at each stop. The relationship resulted in Parnell receiving his own Signature ’57 Les Paul Goldtop. The 55-year-old musician has worked with numerous other musicians, including a collaboration with Steve Wariner and Diamond Rio, and he contributed to Mary Chapin Carpenter’s No. 1 hit “Shut Up and Kiss Me,” by playing the slide guitar. In 2011, Parnell’s efforts as a songwriter earned him an induction into the Texas Heritage Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. |
