O’Brien who is in contention with 22 wins, considering O‘Brien’s four wins on Wednesday 11th December there is still a chance he could catch up but this is all dependent on declared runners for the last fixture of the year on Friday 20th December. Crowne Plaza Leading Trainer 2013 Michael Halford – 19 wins Over the last decade Michael Halford’s name has been an ever present one amongst the ranks of the Ireland’s top trainers. Throughout his career Michael has achieved notable success with a wide variety of horses across the entire racing spectrum and it his ability to get the best from every horse and place them to maximum advantage that has stood him in such excellent stead for the last 25 years. Michael Halford has enjoyed great success at Dundalk Stadium in 2013. Among his current team of jockeys is one of the country’s most promising riders, Shane Foley; and given Shane’s current lead in the Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey title; Michael Halford and Shane Foley have proved a formidable combination on the polytrack again in 2013! Eddie Lynam – 19 wins Edward Lynam first took out a licence to train in February 1984, having previously split his time running a building firm and learning how to train racehorses under the watchful eye of Jim Bolger. After several solid seasons in Ireland, Lynam gained international recognition with his talented performer Duff, who scored in the Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster in September 2008, and went on to represent his trainer in the Hong Kong Mile in Sha Tin the following year. The consistency of the all-weather track here at Dundalk seems to have suited our tied leader this year. Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey 2013 Shane Foley – 25 wins Principal Trainer: Michael Halford Shane Foley is one of the most promising young riders on the Irish circuit and like so many top apprentices before him, he made his first impression on the pony racing scene. He rode a multitude of winners on that circuit and after he graduated from RACE, he was snapped up by noted nurturer of apprentices Mick Halford and he hasn’t looked back since. The Wexford native has enjoyed much success at Dundalk Stadium in 2013. J P O’Brien – 22 wins Principal Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Being the first son of the legendary trainer Aidan O’Brien and one-time Champion Trainer over jumps Anne Marie O’Brien, Joseph O’Brien was certainly bred for success in the racing industry. Joseph O’Brien is improving all the time at just 21 his form has been impressive including bagging four wins on one night alone at Dundalk late this season bringing him into close contention with our current leader Shane Foley.
