Lawsuit Filed Against California Casino Initiative

BARSTOW, California – As reported by the Barstow Daily Press: "A new local citizen group, assisted by the attorney representing one of the tribes proposing a casino in Barstow, is filing suit to block a casino-related initiative.

"Michael Yaki, representing Los Coyotes and the new group called Barstow Citizens for Real Economic Development, made the announcement Monday night at the Barstow City Council meeting.

"…The initiative gave guidance to the city, giving preference to tribes within San Bernardino County for consideration of compacts, required a certain percentage of money to be set aside for law enforcement and emergency responders, and created a commission to oversee gaming issues.
