Law Complicates Rhode Island Casino Debate8 June 2004PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – As reported by the Associated Press: "A 1998 law might give East Greenwich a role in deciding whether a proposed West Warwick casino can get onto the ballot, according to lawmakers and others examining the issue. "In 1998, lawmakers who were worried a proposed Narragansett Indian casino along the Providence waterfront would spill over the Cranston line passed a law to make sure both communities would have a say in the project's approval. "That law might come into play in the current debate, although there are questions about whether it would apply. Also, state leaders said, a lack of specific plans for the casino's site complicate the analysis…" |
